In Panjshir, construction of a central prison has begun as part of ongoing development initiatives in the province.

The Panjshir Governor’s Office said that construction of the central prison facilities has officially begun at a cost of 116 million Afghanis, as part of major infrastructure and development efforts in the province.

According to the head of prison affairs in Panjshir, the facility has been designed in 32 blocks and will include 100 rooms, a mosque, a sports ground, an educational center, and a vocational carpentry workshop.

Panjshir Governor Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim said the Afghan government is implementing development projects in line with the province’s priorities and needs. He further stated that, under the Afghan prisons are not only places of detention but also serve as educational centers.

He added that individuals released from Panjshir prisons in the past have been reintegrated into society as skilled workers, athletes, and religious scholars.

Meanwhile, local residents, intellectuals, and tribal elders in Panjshir have welcomed the project, saying it will play an important role in preventing crime and strengthening justice.

The Governor’s Office also noted that, alongside this project, several other development initiatives worth 613 million Afghanis are currently underway in the province.
