    Writer: Yasin Wiyar

Almost 36 years ago, on Dalwa 26, 1367, the Soviet Union’s Red Army, after nearly nine years of killings, atrocities, crimes and barbarism in Afghanistan, suffered a shameful defeat and left the sacred soil of Afghanistan with their heads down. This marked the end of nearly a decade of mourning and suffering for the Afghan people.

The red soldiers and their puppets in Afghanistan unleashed a brutal campaign against the Afghans during the nine-year occupation, martyring hundreds of thousands of Afghans, injuring millions more and leaving many permanently disabled. Millions were forced to emigrate and the public infrastructure built over decades in Afghanistan was destroyed. Mosques, homes, schools and public facilities were demolished and the blood of innocent Afghans was spilled in every village and alley. Thousands of other Afghans were tortured and then martyred in prisons with great cruelty, aided by their puppets.

Thus, they would bury groups of people alive from every village, every district and every province of Afghanistan. The Soviet army of that time and their puppets were so intoxicated and arrogant with their power and authority that they would even enjoy this state. They did all this to take away the Afghan people’s original values, religion, faith, culture and other values and instead impose the values of their vile communist ideology.

But the Muslim and steel-willed nation of Afghanistan, despite all these cruelties, crimes, barbarities and horrors, did not bow to their demands. Their steel resolve for freedom and independence could not be weakened and they did not allow themselves to live a life of luxury under occupation and communist oppression. Instead, they made countless sacrifices to defend their values and reclaim their freedom and they brought that oppressor to his knees in such a way that not only did he see his dreams and fantasies for Afghanistan go to waste, but this very defeat also became the cause of his decline and disintegration.

Unfortunately, the other superpowers did not learn the right lesson from this great event, nor did they heed the warning of the consequences of the abuse of power and authority, leading the modern tyrant known as America to once again conspire to occupy Afghanistan. Although they were told in the early days to learn from the defeat of the Red Army, they dismissed everything as irrelevant and acted with their own arrogance. Ultimately, this modern tyrant, after two decades of crimes and atrocities, met the same fate as the Red Army along with its conspirators and thus, Afghanistan became the graveyard of three great empires in nearly a century.

So, the 26th of Dalwa is a proud and eventful day in the glorious history of Afghanistan and a day full of lessons and warnings for foreign invaders. In addition, this day also holds many lessons for Afghans, especially those who are deceived by the false promises and sweet words of others. The most important and significant lesson for the invading forces and powers is that they should never harbor the sinister thoughts of conquering and occupying Afghanistan, or else their fate will be known. For those Afghans who still fall for the promises and commitments of foreigners and are willing to serve them, the lesson and warning is that this service will never go unaccounted for, no foreigner can stay here forever, so do not become enemies of your own people and do not disgrace yourselves in history.

The message to the common Afghans on this glorious day is to always maintain their unity and solidarity, and never give space to those who are enemies of the prosperity and well-being of this country, as they bring nothing but misery, wars, destruction and misfortune. Whenever the common Afghans have taken steps in unity and solidarity, even empires have crumbled before them. Now that Afghanistan is peaceful, prosperous and calm, it is time to take joint steps for the development and well-being of the country, so that we can make our country competitive in all aspects of the world.
