Turkish media have reported that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Damascus on the first day of Ramadan and perform the Taraweeh prayer at the Umayyad Mosque.
According to the reports, this visit holds significant importance, as Erdogan had pledged in 2012 that he would travel to Damascus and pray at the Umayyad Mosque once the Bashar al-Assad regime was overthrown.
Notably, following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the victory of the Tahrir al-Sham movement, relations between Istanbul and Damascus have strengthened more than ever before.
