Afghanistan’s Disaster Management Authority reports that at least 20 people have been martyred, more than 80 injured, and over 100 remain missing after severe flooding struck Parun, the capital of Afghanistan’s Nuristan province.
The authority said rescue, search, and relief teams have reached the affected area and are continuing efforts to locate those missing and deliver emergency assistance to affected families.
Meanwhile, Fereydon Samim, spokesperson for the Nuristan governor, said the floods also severely damaged Parun’s commercial areas, causing an estimated $25 million in losses to local businesses.
Officials said the casualty and damage figures are preliminary and may change as rescue efforts continue and authorities assess the full extent of the damage.
