Former Israeli army chief Gadi Eisenkot, a political rival of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has criticized Netanyahu’s economic plan, warning that the country’s potential isolation from the global financial system could threaten its economy and national security.
In a post on X, Eisenkot accused Netanyahu of weakening Israeli society and undermining the military, saying he was now putting the country’s economy at risk.
His remarks came after Netanyahu called for a plan to prepare Israel for potential international economic and banking sanctions by developing alternative payment systems, digital currencies and blockchain technology.
Eisenkot warned that such measures could further isolate Israel from the global financial system, discourage foreign investment, drive companies to relocate their operations abroad and reduce employment opportunities.
