International media report that direct talks between the Israeli regime and the Hamas movement over a Gaza ceasefire are scheduled to begin today, Monday, October 6, in Egypt.
Sources note the negotiations will address critical issues, including the release of Israeli prisoners held by Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Representatives from both Hamas and the Israeli regime will attend the talks, along with U.S. envoys including President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Washington’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged Israel to halt its military operations in Gaza to enable the release of the detained Israeli prisoners. Speaking to CBS, he stressed that a ceasefire cannot be achieved while hostilities continue.
President Donald Trump has also called on all parties involved to take decisive steps to mediate an end to the conflict in Gaza.
