According to The Independent, Hamas has announced that, as a gesture of goodwill, it has dissolved the administrative government committee that had been responsible for overseeing civilian affairs in the Gaza Strip.
The report adds that, according to Hamas, until the National Committee for Gaza’s administration officially begins its work, a nationally accepted figure will manage the territory’s affairs on an interim basis.
Hamas, which has governed Gaza since 2007, had repeatedly stated after the ceasefire that it would hand over the administration of Gaza to a national committee. However, the committee, headed by Ali Shaath and currently based in Cairo, has so far been unable to enter Gaza due to Israel’s refusal to grant permission.
