Arab media report that Hamas is set to appoint a new head for its political bureau, with the options reportedly narrowed to Khalil al-Hayya and Khaled Mashal.

According to the reports, the appointment is also expected to result in the dissolution of the council that was formed following the martyrdom of Yahya Sinwar.

According to RT Arabic, Khalil al-Hayya appears to be the frontrunner, citing his popularity and wide support among Palestinians and his perceived ability to uphold the movement’s course of resistance.

Hamas’s leadership council is expected to reach and announce a decision in the coming days.
