Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Pierre Krähenbühl, Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), met with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, to discuss several matters.

According to Mr. Takal, Pierre highlighted the ICRC’s work in Afghanistan, including healthcare, prosthetics, and other humanitarian efforts. He also expressed satisfaction with the security and stability achieved in the country.

Mr. Muttaqi emphasized the importance of the ICRC’s assistance to Afghanistan’s patients and people with disabilities over the past decades. He requested that the ICRC also assist in determining the whereabouts of Afghan prisoners held in other countries and in communicating their status to their families.

Mr. Krähenbühl acknowledged that the ICRC’s efforts to locate Afghan detainees and inform their families have been hindered by restrictions on access to prisons imposed by some countries. However, he assured that the ICRC would intensify its efforts in this area.

He further emphasized that the ICRC’s decisions are independent of those made by other parties, and the organization will continue its operations in Afghanistan as it has in the past.
