In the National Assembly, The Election of Omar Davodzai Has Led to the Separation of Three Groups from this Assembly

The National Assembly for Salvation of Afghanistan, which has been plagued by internal disputes since its early days, has further expanded and is increasingly facing a state of fragmentation. Initially, the assembly claimed the unification of numerous groups, but from that time, some groups distanced themselves and declared their discontent.

When the first session of the National Assembly took place, Fazl Ahmad Manavi, representing the Resistance Front, was among the first to oppose the structure and formation of the council. Initially, it was also analyzed that this assembly was designed to reduce the influence of the Resistance Front and Ahmad Massoud. As these disagreements continued, the council of the Western Zone of Afghanistan and the National Freedom Party of Afghanistan, led by Rahmatullah Nabil, opposed it and distanced from them, Nabil’s party. Subsequently, with the presence of Hanif Atmar in the assembly, Ismail Khan and Yunus Qanuni also expressed their opposition. However, the disagreements did not cease, and reports about them continue to be published to this day.

In a recent case, the Jamiat-e Islami party led by Salahuddin Rabbani, the Resistance Front led by Ahmad Massoud, and the Freedom Front led by Yasin Zia announced their separation from the national assembly along with their criticisms and concerns, and they no longer hold membership in this assembly.

The Jamiat-e Islami party and the Resistance Front have stated in their separate but similar statements that from the very beginning of this assembly, there were serious political and technical considerations regarding the assembly. They also had concerns about the structure, policies, and management strategies at the time of its establishment. In our view, ignoring these considerations is neither in the interest of the people nor does it strengthen the opposing political factions and organizations of the caretaker government. These groups are not part of the national assembly due to political and technical reasons.

The Freedom Front has again stated in a separate announcement that they were never members of the National Assembly and categorically rejects this claim, but they are allied with the groups that are fighting against the caretaker government.

The presence of these groups named Jamiat, Resistance, and Freedom Front in the National Assembly was announced from the beginning, but why are they now rejecting their presence in the assembly or announcing their separation after such a long silence!? The reality is that recently, former Interior Minister Mohammad Omar Daudzai was appointed as the executive head of the National Assembly, and his appointment has caused disagreements and divisions among the prominent groups in the assembly.

The separation of these three groups is the first sign of the recently emerging differences following the election of Mohammad Omar Daudzai. The assembly may reach the final stage of division and fragmentation and could disappear altogether, as there are also reactions in the media against it. Some social activists and members of other groups accuse this assembly of having close ties with and working for the caretaker government.
