Afghanistan’s Minister of Information and Culture, Sheikh Shir Ahmad Haqqani, said the recent incident in Badakhshan lacks public support and that claims suggesting a wider conflict are largely rumors aimed at creating insecurity.

Speaking at the inauguration of the “Government Through the Lens of the Media” program, Haqqani said every security incident should be assessed by carefully examining its background, those behind it, and its objectives. He stressed that the recent incident does not have public backing and said reports portraying it as renewed fighting are largely based on rumors.

He said individuals seeking to fuel conflict and instability have failed to achieve their objectives in the past and continue to lack public support. He added that Afghans committed to Islam and their national values do not resort to violence or destructive acts, stressing that safeguarding the country’s security and stability is a shared responsibility.
