Afghanistan’s General Directorate of State Owned Companies said in a statement that its Director General, Mawlawi Ahmad Jan Bilal, met with Iran’s Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi to discuss electricity supplies to Afghanistan, the training of Afghan technical personnel and cooperation in the energy sector.
Aliabadi said Iran is ready to supply Afghanistan with up to 2,000 megawatts of electricity to help meet the country’s power needs. He also said Iran would provide the necessary facilities to train Afghan technical personnel and strengthen their professional skills.
The meeting, attended by the ambassadors of both countries, also covered cooperation in electricity and energy, the supply of clean drinking water, the construction of wastewater treatment facilities and other related issues.
Mawlawi Bilal called for expanded cooperation in the energy sector, stronger technical capacity and the implementation of joint projects. He also visited major water and wastewater treatment facilities in Tehran.
