Kabul experienced the launch of its first-ever trial rollout of 5G internet services, following a capacity upgrade by Afghan wireless telecommunications company.

The company’s chairman, Aliullah Sarwari, said during a meeting with the Minister of Communications and Information Technology that 74 antennas in the capital have been upgraded to 5G on a trial basis to improve service quality.

He added that, once the infrastructure is completed and the testing phase is concluded, the service will be expanded to other regions of the country.

According to Mr. Sarwari, since the beginning of 2026, the company has built 46 new sites with its development budget and brought them into operation, while 186 additional sites remain under construction.

Meanwhile, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mawlawi Hamdullah Noumani, said the ministry continues to work in coordination with telecommunications companies to further improve and develop the sector.

He also pledged full cooperation with these companies on legal and regulatory matters.
