Reports say the U.S. Department of War is removing General Christopher Donahue, the last American soldier expelled from Afghanistan, from his post ahead of his retirement from military service. Donahue is expected to step down as commander of U.S. Army Europe and Africa on July 2 as part of a broader leadership shake-up at the Pentagon.
Donahue currently commands U.S. Army ground forces in Europe and Africa.
Donahue was the last American soldier to be forcefully expelled from Afghanistan, fleeing through Kabul International Airport in August 2021 during the final stage of the U.S. military withdrawal from the country.
