Ministry of Defense: Russian Media Claim About Bagram Is Untrue

A reliable source within the Ministry of National Defense, in a conversation with the Voice of Hindukush, strongly rejected the reports claiming that Afghan officials had proposed a joint investigation of the Bagram military base to the United States.

The source stated that such claims are purely propagandistic and aim to undermine the interim government’s recent political and diplomatic achievements of the interim government.

According to the source, the Afghan army is unmatched in conducting ground operations and investigations in the region, and there is no need for Afghan officials to make such a request to any foreign country.

The Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta recently claimed—based on a post from fugitive Amrullah Saleh’s X account—that the Afghan government proposed a joint investigation of Bagram with the U.S. in an attempt to counter President Donald Trump’s assumptions about Chinese military presence at the base. The report referenced a fabricated document.

This claim was denied days earlier by Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, during a graduation ceremony at the Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Institute, where he strongly rejected Trump’s allegations about Bagram.

Muttaqi emphasized that the interim government does not allow any foreign military presence on Afghan soil and is not willing to enter into even preliminary discussions on the matter.

He further stated that the interim government seeks political, economic, and diplomatic engagement with the world and is not open to any kind of military interaction.
