Nearly 30 Countries Urge Iran to Allow Ship Passage Through Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Al-Arabiya reported that nearly 30 countries have proposed bilateral agreements with Iran to permit the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, however, stated that the route remains closed to enemy countries.

Sources report that Iranian officials have stressed that, once the conflict ends, a new management framework will be implemented for the Strait of Hormuz.

Under the proposed framework, only ships using Chinese yuan for commercial transactions, rather than U.S. dollars, would be permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

This comes as a regional conflict pushes oil and food prices to record highs, prompting urgent international action to contain the crisis.
