According to a Reuters report, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that the temporary residency period for thousands of Afghan refugees has expired, and they now face the possibility of deportation.

The department confirmed that the legal stay of more than 14,000 Afghans—who had relocated to the United States following the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2022—has come to an end.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristie Noem, stated that Afghanistan no longer meets the conditions for continued support.

While official details regarding the identities of those facing deportation have not been disclosed, it is believed that some key members of so-called fictitious fronts opposing Afghanistan may be among them and could be sent back to Afghanistan as part of this process.
