According to Pakistani media reports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan announced on January 1st that it has handed over a list of Indian prisoners to India, in continuation of the 2008 agreement.
Under this agreement, both countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s prisons every year on January 1st and July 1st.Reports indicate that the Pakistani government has handed over a list of 266 Indian prisoners, including 49 civilians and 217 fishermen, to the Indian embassy in Islamabad.
Additionally, Pakistan has requested India to release and repatriate all Pakistani nationals who have completed their sentences in India.
Simultaneously, the Indian government has provided a list of 462 Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails to the Pakistani embassy in New Delhi. According to this list, 381 of the prisoners are civilians and 81 are fishermen.
Furthermore, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that 52 civilian prisoners and 56 fishermen have completed their sentences in Indian prisons and has requested India to free and return them to Pakistan.
