Pakistani media have reported that the federal cabinet has decided to impose emergency rule and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, there has been no official confirmation of the decision’s final approval or implementation.
According to the reports, the federal cabinet discussed several proposals after receiving information from security agencies. Under one proposal, eight districts in the former tribal areas, along with Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, Karak and Kohat, would come under federal government control.
The reports also state that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi would assume the powers of the provincial chief executive under the proposed arrangement.
Security reports presented to the government reportedly showed that terrorist incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa increased by 195 percent between March 1, 2024, and September 23, 2026.
Sources further reported that no drone attacks targeting police and security agencies were recorded in 2024, while the number of such attacks reached 170 in 2026.
