The newspaper Politico reports that European countries are making preparations in case the United States withdraws from NATO.
A European diplomat told the report that NATO is paralyzed, struggles to hold even routine meetings, and is clearly at risk of collapsing.
The diplomat added that the European Union is actively developing its own defense plans independent of U.S. military support.
Earlier, Donald Trump referred to NATO as a paper tiger, noting that Russia’s president is well aware of it.
Trump also criticized European countries for their refusal to join a potential conflict with Iran and warned that the United States could consider withdrawing from NATO.
