Qatar’s Royal Court has announced the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar’s former Emir and father of the current Emir, at the age of 74.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Royal Court said Sheikh Hamad passed away in the morning of 27 Muharram 1448 AH, corresponding to July 12, 2026.
The statement said: “With full faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, the Royal Court of Qatar mourns the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, a prominent national figure and the father of the Emir.”
The Royal Court prayed for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for Sheikh Hamad, adding that he had made significant and lasting contributions to Qatar, the Arab and Islamic worlds.
