Al-Khabour, a Syrian state media outlet, reported that the United Arab Emirates released Issam al-Buwydani, the former leader of “Jaysh al-Islam” and a senior figure in the Syrian military, after one year in detention.
Reports indicate that he was released following President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s official visit yesterday and his meeting with Emirati officials.
Following his release, preparations have been made in his hometown (Douma) to welcome him with a warm welcome.
