Ministry of Public Works spokesperson Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas said that since the morning of yesterday, heavy snowfall, accompanied by a storm, has been ongoing, causing the closure of the main highway of the Salang Pass for traffic.

According to him, the snow thickness varies in different parts of the highway, with the snow reaching up to 4 meters and 60 centimeters in the northern Salang, and up to 2 meters and 68 centimeters in the southern Salang.

Haqshenas further mentioned that, in addition to the Salang Pass, many roads in Bamiyan, Daikundi, and Ghazni provinces have also been closed due to heavy snowfall, cutting off several districts from their provincial capitals.

The ministry assured that, with sufficient machinery and resources, efforts are underway to clear the snow from these roads and reopen them for travel as soon as possible.
