Reuters reports that South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense has announced plans to provide drone training to 500,000 military personnel as part of efforts to counter threats from North Korea.
South Korean officials said they will expand both drone and counter-drone capabilities and deploy tens of thousands of unmanned systems to frontline military units.
South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyuback stated that the military plans to produce drones and equip its ground, naval, air, and infantry forces with them by 2029.
Under the new plan, approximately 60,000 drones will be manufactured, with 11,000 scheduled for immediate delivery to the military in 2026.
