Today On Sunday, a key member of the National Resistance Front (NRF), Zaidullah, appointed by Ahmad Massoud for coordination with ISIS, was killed by the interim government’s special forces in Shuhada district, Badakhshan. One of his associates was captured alive.
In the month of Asad, 1402 Solar Hijri Year, joint security forces of the interim government conducted extensive operations in Duzakh Dara, Shuhada district, targeting NRF elements. The local group was suppressed, but Zaidullah escaped. He recently re-entered Badakhshan and was in contact with Sibghatullah, an ISIS member from Karachi, Pakistan, who had been introduced by ISIS for coordination with the NRF.
According to a security source from the interim government: “They planned to carry out destructive activities in Badakhshan, but were preemptively identified and neutralized by the Islamic Emirate’s special forces.”
Reliable sources indicate that the NRF has held meetings with representatives of ISIS-Khorasan in a neighboring country, reaching an understanding wherein the NRF would provide logistical support for ISIS attacks and share intelligence on targets in foreign countries. In return, ISIS would conduct attacks on these specified targets.
In 1401 Solar Hijri Year, ISIS carried out missile attacks on Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, and later launched several attacks in Badakhshan. The missiles and explosive materials used in these attacks were reportedly supplied by the NRF.
Analysts believe that ISIS-Khorasan, after being weakened in Afghanistan, has shifted its base to Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, seeking allies to carry out attacks in Afghanistan and the region. The NRF, which faces significant opposition from the majority of Afghans, is allegedly attempting to leverage ISIS for its objectives with the assistance of certain intelligence agencies. Given that many NRF members and commanders reside abroad, their collaboration with ISIS poses a significant threat to their host countries.
