In recent days, 23 groups of Afghan protesting women had requested from U.S. President Donald Trump in a letter to sentence the former U.S. envoy to Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad; the protesting women stated that the Taliban came to power because of Khalilzad and that the Taliban trample on our rights.
But they have forgotten that the practical policies of global powers always clash with their declared values. Policies are not subject to slogans but to interests. Powerful countries announce principles but pursue interests. The commitments of superpowers are valid only until the needs change. The games of power trample over the slogans of ethics. Those in power on the global stage do what is beneficial, not what is just.
The longest war in American history, lasting twenty years, was sacrificed by Khalilzad’s personal politics. Khalilzad is an Afghan-American; he can not pursue the interests of Afghanistan or the Taliban. Khalilzad was a part of the Americans’ game in the Qatar negotiations, not a player; he merely presented the Americans’ agenda. Today, his coming to Afghanistan was an American coming, not an Afghan; today, his coming benefited the U.S., but if tomorrow his interests tied to Khalilzad are realized, he will leave like an ordinary person.
No one in Afghanistan has forced Afghan women to extend a helping hand to a foreign president like Trump, but these few sold-out women are a project that has sold their dignity and honor for a few coins.
Americans have always looked out for their own interests, a good example being the closure of Voice of America and Radio Free Europe. The journalists of Voice of America have also sent a complaint letter to the U.S. government, but this is a futile attempt because Americans prioritize their own interests. As long as it was beneficial to them, they utilized it, but now that the benefits have ended, they have closed Radio Free Europe and Voice of America. Those employees who had worked for decades, decades for the interests of America against their own country and language, who had tirelessly toiled day and night to distort their own religion, culture, and history, have been dismissed and left without a future.
According to the new strategy, America is trying to get close to the caretaker government because it is beneficial for them. Their interests are so important that they engage directly with the caretaker government without involving a third-party country and offer cash rewards to the high-ranking officials of the government. They have trampled over the red lines that Americans had drawn according to their policies and moved forward.
The opening of this new phase is the result of the caretaker government’s balanced policy, which seeks good relations with all distant and neighboring countries and has adjusted its foreign policy accordingly.
