American media have reported that the U.S. Consulate in Peshawar will be permanently closed.

This consulate was considered the closest U.S. diplomatic center due to its proximity to the Disputed Durand Line.

According to the report, the U.S. government has informed Congress of this decision and stated that closing the consulate will save approximately 7.5 million dollars annually.

U.S. officials said that the consulate’s affairs will be handled through the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and the consulates in Karachi and Lahore.
