Iraqi media reported that ISIS prisoners are being transferred from various prisons in Syria, including the Al-Hol camp, to Iraq.

Sources noted the operation began in January. So far, 150 individuals from Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province have been moved to Iraq, with plans to transfer up to 7,000 ISIS prisoners in total.

Iraqi officials stated that once the ISIS members are transferred from Syria, their identities will be verified before they are handed over to their respective countries.

The transfer follows clashes between Syrian government forces and Kurdish groups in northeastern Syria, which escalated tensions and allowed a number of ISIS prisoners to escape from several detention facilities.
