CNN reports that the Donald Trump administration has drafted a nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia that would allow the kingdom to enrich uranium for its civilian nuclear program.
Sources said the agreement has been finalized but has not yet been signed by President Donald Trump or submitted to Congress.
The proposal has drawn controversy because it would not require Saudi Arabia to adopt the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Additional Protocol, which provides for enhanced international inspections. Instead, nuclear oversight would be governed by a separate bilateral agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia.
