Donald Trump, the president of the United States, warned that NATO could face serious consequences if its member countries do not assist in reopening and securing the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump noted the countries benefiting from this vital maritime route should also contribute to safeguarding its security.
He also called on China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom to assist by deploying minesweeping vessels and other military equipment.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime route, through which roughly 20 percent of global crude oil shipments pass.
