U.S-Iran Ceasefire Agreement Could Be Signed Next Sunday

Reuters reported that a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the Gulf conflict between the United States and Iran could be signed next Sunday, with Geneva considered the most likely location for the signing.

Sources said the draft of the agreement is still being finalized, while Iran continues to insist that any deal must also include an end to the conflict in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Iran’s IRNA news agency, citing the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, reported that the general framework and draft of the ceasefire memorandum is almost completed and are awaiting final approval from Iran’s decision-making bodies.

The spokesperson said numerous changes have been made to the draft, but its overall structure has remained largely unchanged.

He added that no final agreement has been reached on the nuclear issue and that Iran is not making any new commitments. He also rejected media claims that Iran would hand over control of the Strait of Hormuz or agree to return to conditions that existed before U.S. and Israeli military strikes.

The proposed memorandum includes a 60-day negotiation period between Iran and the United States, during which the two sides will discuss three issues, the continuation of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, the removal of all U.S. unilateral sanctions that Iran calls “illegal,” and a mechanism for compensating Iran for damages caused by the war.

Sources said no other issues will be included on the negotiation agenda.
