U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement on Tuesday welcoming the newly announced agreement between Syria’s new government and the Democratic Forces, under which the semi-autonomous Kurdish regions will be integrated into Syria’s national government.

“The United States welcomes the newly announced agreement between Syria’s interim officials and the Syrian Democratic Forces, which will unify the northeastern region with a united Syria,” Rubio stated.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian Democratic Forces, which have U.S. support, have previously fought against the ISIS group in Syria.
