US–Europe Relations Severely Strained Due to Iran Conflict

The Wall Street Journal, in an analytical report, stated that relations between the United States and Europe have been severely strained due to the conflict with Iran.

The report noted that NATO, which has been the foundation of Western security since World War II, is now facing a serious test. It mentioned that President Trump criticized European allies for not participating in the war against Iran and even raised the possibility of leaving NATO.

On the other hand, European countries consider this war illegal and inappropriate, stating that they were not consulted regarding the conflict.

Furthermore, last year’s political and economic disputes, such as tariff increases, reduced support for Ukraine, and the Greenland issue, have also caused Europe to distance itself from US support, emphasizing that NATO is solely a collective defense alliance and not obligated to join every US war.

Europe also rejected US requests to open the Strait of Hormuz, which further increased Washington’s frustration.

Analysts believe that the main concern is that if this disagreement continues, NATO could become weakened or even practically ineffective.
