High-level delegations from Iran and the United States are set to meet today, Saturday, in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, to hold important discussions aimed at reaching a permanent ceasefire.

Pakistani government sources have stated that the negotiations will be held face-to-face and may last more than one day, as no specific timeframe has been assigned for them.

From Pakistan’s side, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir will participate in these important talks.

The U.S. delegation will be led by Vice President J.D. Vance, accompanied by Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Brad Cooper.

From Iran, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, and Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr will take part.

According to available information, the head of the U.S. delegation, J.D. Vance, previously served as a war correspondent in the U.S. Marine Corps. Steve Witkoff is a well-known businessman who serves as the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East. Jared Kushner was a key advisor during Donald Trump’s administration and played a role in shaping several major Middle East agreements. Brad Cooper is a senior military commander who has participated in various conflicts.

On the Iranian side, Abbas Araghchi is considered an experienced diplomat who played a key role in the 2015 nuclear deal negotiations. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is a former military and security figure who currently serves as the Speaker of Parliament. Majid Takht-Ravanchi is also an experienced diplomat who previously served as Iran’s representative to the United Nations, while Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr is regarded as a hardline security official.

Analysts say the participation of such high-level delegations indicates that these talks are not ordinary discussions, but rather an important step toward reducing regional tensions and possibly reaching a political understanding.
