According to a report by Tasnim News Agency, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Water Resources, Shavkat Khamrayev, refuted claims by some media outlets suggesting that the interim government’s construction of the Qosh Tepa Canal is an act of aggression.

Speaking at a press conference, Khamrayev emphasized the importance of diplomacy and cooperation with the interim government, affirming that Afghanistan has a legitimate right to use the waters of the Amu River.

“The Afghans are our kin, and they have the rightful claim to benefit from the Amu River. Should we resort to conflict and confrontation with them? Absolutely not. We are committed to fostering strong relations with them,” he stated.

The Uzbek minister also urged his country’s citizens not to be swayed by rumors or misinformation, encouraging them to view Afghanistan as a friendly partner.

Additionally, Khamrayev noted that he had visited Afghanistan four times in recent months and was warmly welcomed by the interim government on each occasion.

It is worth mentioning that there had been claims suggesting that Uzbekistan opposed the construction of the Qosh Tepa Canal and did not recognize Afghanistan’s right to use the Amu River.
