Details of Ongoing Talks in Turkey; Pakistani Side Making Unreasonable Demands

Sources familiar with developments in Turkey have reported that during the latest round of talks in Istanbul, the Afghan delegation shared its views and demands with the mediators.

The sources added that the demands made by the Pakistani side fall outside any realistic or logical framework and have no relevance to Afghanistan’s affairs.

One of the Pakistani delegation’s demands was to ensure that no security incidents occur in Pakistan; a problem that has deep domestic roots and cannot be controlled by any other country.

The sources also stated that the Pakistani side requested the relocation of Pakistani Taliban to Afghanistan; however, this demand neither aligns with Afghanistan’s realities, nor does it guarantee a solution to the issue or contribute to regional security.

Pakistan makes this demand while, on one hand, accusing Afghanistan of allegedly harboring Pakistani Taliban, and on the other hand, seeking to transfer the same individuals into Afghanistan.

The Afghan negotiating team told the Pakistani side that it does not wish to turn the problems of other countries into its own burden and reiterated its commitment to peace and stability.

Meanwhile, the Afghan delegation’s reasonable demands; including one that calls for Pakistan’s territory and airspace not to be used by any other country or by groups like ISIS against Afghanistan, were not accepted by the Pakistani side.
