The New York Times reported that on Saturday, thousands of people held widespread protests in dozens of cities across Mexico due to increasing corruption and violence in the government.

These protests took place in more than 50 cities throughout the country.

Protesters stated that the government has failed to control criminal and mafia groups, with nearly hundreds of thefts, murders, and other crimes occurring daily.

The report adds that the protests intensified further after a well-known mayor—who had been critical of the current situation—was assassinated.
