Iran’s state news agency, citing informed sources, has firmly rejected claims by Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, that Iran’s ballistic missile program is part of the agenda for upcoming talks between Iran and the United States.
The sources said Shehbaz Sharif is not aware of the contents of any agreement and made the remarks on his own.
According to the report, Iran’s negotiating team has stressed that the missile issue is not included in the agenda of talks between Tehran and Washington.
Fars News Agency, citing its correspondent, reported that Pakistan has no role in mediating the negotiations and that Shehbaz Sharif made the remarks only to create the impression that Islamabad plays a mediating role in the talks.
The sources stressed that Qatar is playing the most effective mediating role in the negotiations between Iran and the United States.
