The Acting Prime Minister of the interim government, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, in an official statement, expressed gratitude to Iran for hosting Afghan refugees over the past four decades. He acknowledged Iran’s decision to deport undocumented refugees as their sovereign choice but urged the Iranian side to consider principles of gradual return, dignity, and good neighborliness during the process. He emphasized that this would help protect refugees’ rights and allow Afghan government institutions to effectively manage their reintegration.

He further stated, “I call on Iranian officials to refrain from violating or disrespecting the rights of Afghan migrants during deportation, and to allow them to transfer their movable property back home and properly settle their immovable assets and bank accounts.”

He also expressed hope that Iran would provide necessary facilities at deportation centers during the process, especially to protect refugees from the extreme heat and related hardships.

The Acting Prime Minister stressed that Iran should act with patience and gradualism so that this issue does not become a source of resentment and hostility between the two nations.
