The Ministry of Industry and Commerce says Afghanistan exported approximately 290,000 metric tons of fresh fruit to foreign countries last year.
According to the ministry, the total value of these exports reached $141 million, with shipments sent to India, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Central Asia, Russia, and Europe.
The ministry’s data show that apples topped the list of fresh fruit exports with a value of $44 million, followed by grapes and pomegranates.
Traders say Afghan fruits are now being exported to a wider range of international markets instead of relying primarily on Pakistan.
Meanwhile, officials in Herat say that during the first three months of the current year, 53,000 metric tons of goods were exported from the province to foreign markets.
