Carpet Producers and Exporters Union of Afghanistan reports that nearly 10,000 square meters of carpets are produced each month, with most of its production exported to international markets.
Abdullah Rahman Qul, head of the union, said the carpet weaving industry in northern Afghanistan provides employment for around 15,000 people, most of whom are women.
Rahman Qul said Afghan carpets are exported to at least 37 countries, including Türkiye, countries across Europe, the United States, Canada, and Arab countries. He added that Afghan carpets have earned a strong reputation in international markets for their high quality, traditional craftsmanship, and the use of natural wool.
