In Ahmad Massoud’s recent statements, the level of understanding of the current geopolitical realities of the region and the world is negligible. He claims that there is no disagreement among the opponents and that the narratives of discord are only meant to dishearten the people and the world; however, this is itself an attempt to conceal the truth. The truth is that the power dynamics in global and regional politics have fundamentally changed, and the countries of the world are moving toward interaction and stability with those realities that have control over geographies, leaving no place for Massoud’s imaginary group, as it neither has control over geography nor is it acceptable as a reality.
Masoud’s statement that “the opponents are united and follow common principles” is a kind of mistake in the face of the currents of the new world order. The international community, especially Afghanistan’s neighbors, are well aware of the deep disagreements and power struggles that arose among the participants of the Vienna, Paris, and other meetings. The current geopolitical interests of major countries lie in ensuring security and engaging economically with the existing government, not in supporting the conflicting factions that cannot even agree on appointing a common leader.
The absence of a political position for the so-called resistance group in international affairs indicates that this group currently stands as a defeated faction for foreign policy tools. Their demands and proposals are not taken seriously by the international community because they understand that this front has no capacity to bring about any strategic change within Afghanistan. Therefore, Masoud’s political rhetoric and the emphasis on false narratives of unity among the opposition are not aimed at influencing international decisions, but rather at the survival and funding of a small and isolated group.
The emergence of a new political and security environment in the region makes it clear that no country wants to jeopardize its national and security interests for the sake of Masood’s group, their imaginary plans, and the return of former individuals to power. Russia, China, the Central Asian countries, and even the Western world are all seeking to engage with a central and strong power in Afghanistan to ensure stability and prevent chaos.
In international relations, importance is measured by territorial sovereignty and control over sources of power; such a group that has nothing within its own country will have any request of theirs deemed worthless by foreign countries. Massoud, in his speeches, wants to present himself and his companions as an internationally recognized and united alternative, but in reality, they have been completely excluded from the region’s genuine political currents.
The incompetence of Ahmad Massoud and his group proves that their political statements do not align with the demands of the new world order. Their failure to understand international and regional realities and their unsuccessful attempt to conceal differences will result in their plans being reduced to mere slogans, which will play no role in illuminating the fate of the Afghan people and will only be used as tools of their propaganda.
