Bloomberg reports that following the U.S. nnouncement of a 25 percent tariff on Indian imports, New Delhi has expressed no interest in purchasing the United States’ advanced F-35 fighter jets.

The report highlights India’s efforts to increase imports of natural gas, telecommunications equipment, and gold from the U.S. to maintain strong economic ties with Washington and to avoid escalating tensions.

Earlier this year, during a White House meeting, U.S. President Donald Trump offered India the opportunity to purchase fifth-generation F-35 jets. However, Indian officials stressed that their defense priorities focus on achieving self-reliance, boosting domestic production, and expanding joint defense projects within the country.

The U.S.-made F-35 fighter jets are considered among the world’s most advanced combat aircraft, known for their radar-evading technology. They were also deployed during the recent 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel.
