Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mawlawi Abdul Ghani Baradar, leading a delegation, has visited Hairatan Port in Balkh province.

According to a statement from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for Economic Affairs, the visit focused on discussions regarding the provision of 24-hour services at the port, as well as the challenges faced by state-run authorities and companies operating there. The statement added that necessary decisions were taken to address these issues.

Under the decisions made, the staffing structure of state-run authorities at the port will be expanded in line with operational needs. Plans also include the construction of large standardized parking areas, administrative buildings, loading and unloading facilities, advanced laboratories, standard roads, and cold storage units.

The existing railway lines at the port will be expanded to enhance connectivity and operational capacity. To further improve transit efficiency, transport vehicles will be introduced. At the same time, digital weighing systems will be installed to ensure accurate measurement of heavy cargo, while mobile scanning equipment will be deployed to strengthen anti-smuggling measures.

The statement added that the implementation of these measures is expected to further strengthen trade between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and make a positive contribution to the country’s economic growth.
