Libya’s Presidential Council has dismissed the country’s former intelligence chief, Hussein Al-Aaib, and appointed Abdulmajid Maleqta as the new head of the intelligence service.

According to Libyan media reports, the Presidential Council said the decision was made to ensure the orderly functioning of state institutions and to safeguard the country’s national interests.

Meanwhile, Moussa Al-Koni, a senior member of the Presidential Council, described the appointments as illegal, reigniting disputes over the leadership of Libya’s key security institutions.
