The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs announced via a press release that the remaining construction works on three major electricity development projects have commenced in the provinces of Kandahar, Zabul, and Helmand.

According to the statement, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, stated during the ceremony that these projects represent significant steps toward achieving self-sufficiency in electricity, creating new employment opportunities, and strengthening infrastructure. He noted that through these initiatives, electricity generated from the Kajaki Dam would be fully transmitted to Kandahar.

Mr. Baradar further emphasized that the interim government is seriously working to enhance domestic electricity production by utilizing internal resources. To this end, it recently signed agreements with the private sector in various provinces for the generation of 250 megawatts of electricity from solar, wind, and gas sources.

The statement adds that the projects include the completion of the remaining works on the Qalat Substation in Zabul and the Eastern Kandahar Substation, as well as the extension of a 110-kilovolt transmission line from the Kajaki hydropower to the Eastern Kandahar Substation.

The press release further highlights that these projects involve a financial investment of nearly one billion AFN and are expected to supply electricity to hundreds of thousands of new customers while creating numerous employment opportunities for the countrymen.
