International media have reported that the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it carried out airstrikes on several Iranian targets in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CENTCOM, the vessel, which was sailing under the Cypriot flag, came under attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that a vessel attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz via an “unauthorized” maritime route and was targeted after failing to heed repeated warnings.
The IRGC added that, following the incident, it had closed the Strait of Hormuz and warned that it would respond firmly and decisively to any military action.
