Iranian officials say a new shipping route near the Strait of Hormuz will be announced in the coming days under an agreement with Oman.
The new route is intended to regulate vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The move comes as commercial shipping through the waterway has fallen to its lowest level since May.
According to maritime analytics firm Kpler, an average of just 10 cargo vessels have passed through the Strait of Hormuz each day over the past 10 days.
