Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote on his X account that the new U.S. sanctions imposed on eight individuals and six entities violate Article 9 of the Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the United States.
Araghchi said that Iran has so far remained committed to its obligations, but that the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury has violated Article 9 of the memorandum.
He added that the U.S. action is a continuation of Washington’s previous violations and wrongful measures, emphasizing that the implementation of commitments is only possible through mutual obligations and reciprocal action.
According to reports, the U.S. Department of the Treasury has added eight individuals and six entities linked to Iran to its sanctions list.
Under Article 9 of the Iran-U.S. Memorandum of Understanding, both sides had agreed to maintain the status quo until a final agreement is reached; Iran would preserve the current status of its nuclear program, and the United States would refrain from imposing new sanctions.
Iranian officials said that the latest U.S. sanctions are in violation of that memorandum.
