The naval forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have begun extensive military drills in the Strait of Hormuz under the title “Smart Control of the Strait of Hormuz.”
According to Iranian media reports, the exercises are being supervised and led by the IRGC’s Commander-in-Chief, Mohammad Pakpour.
The report adds that the purpose of these joint military drills is to enhance the operational readiness of the IRGC’s naval units, assess potential security threats in the Strait of Hormuz area, and ensure the effective use of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman in response to threats.
The IRGC’s military exercises are taking place at a time when tensions between Washington and Tehran have sharply escalated, with both sides issuing threats of attack against each other.
